Understanding the experiences of trauma in young people and adults and how to work from a trauma-informed perspective

 

Trauma is an unfortunately common experience with approximately 70% of people worldwide believed to experience trauma at some point in their lives. Trauma informed practice acknowledges people's experience of trauma in order to deliver safe, effective care that is more likely to improve engagement and outcomes when people engage with helping services

This 8 hour workshop will:

  • Unpack what trauma is and how it impacts people, including complex, vicarious and intergenerational trauma, and how these experiences affect the brain and body
  • Explore how trauma presents including emotion dysregulation, dissociation, psychotic phenomena and crisis.
  • Introduce concepts such as the "window of tolerance" and the "brain-body connection"
  • Discuss the impacts of trauma on helping professionals
  • Explore the core principles of trauma informed practice
  • Unpack the concepts such as burn out and compassion fatigue and how to navigate these via self-care and other professional activities.

Workshop Details:

The workshop runs in online and face-to-face options. Participants will be provided a copy of the workshop slides as well as comprehensive worksheets and handouts. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the workshop.

Who Should Attend:

The workshop is suitable for anyone who supports people who have experienced trauma. Participants do not require any prior clinical experience or therapy/counselling training. Participants do not need to work in a clinical setting.
